Burning Man and Sound Camps - updates of interest...

Burners who go to the event in large part because of the existence of dance music and the camps that create the spaces to hear them, need to get up to speed on the latest efforts of those camps to get even modest forms of support from the BM org. (Which sadly have been mostly fruitless...)

For this to have any chance to ever change, folks need to know the score, and act accordingly.

This year's LoveFest, the largest electronic music parade and festival will include a three day conference featuring top music talent showcasing the latest gear and software. The organizers are seeking a motivated individual(s) to assist in hands on management of the event.

YOU should be motivated by music, be organized, be eager to learn, personable, good on the phone, able to clear your schedule for the three day conference on October 1, 2 and 3. If you have ever worked in or around a business conference, you go to the head of the line.

i want to know from you guys, do you bitch when you go to a party and have to pay at the door?

Do you give the door person a hard time when you have to pay $20 to get in?

Do you wine so much that the cashier needs to call a waaaaamulance?

Do you try to barter with them like hey I have 10 of my friends here, can we all get in for $5?

Do you try to say that you are on guest list of joe somebody and make the person go through the list of every person and your name is not there?

are you a high maintanance party goer?

I really do want to know what you guys think and have to say because usually at every party, about 45% of people try this and it gets so old its not even funny.

For some reason I thought Syd was at the DNA lounge tonight… so I thought it would be a good time to bring some friends out to the city and show them how the real party people do it!!
But because of all that crack I smoked and lack of meditation I mixed up the nights… So I have no idea what is worth checking out tonight…

Miss Kelly
formerlly of Urban Tribal, San Diego

Miss Kelly is one of the innovators of a branch of bellydance, which roots are from Fat Chance Bellydance, called tribal fusion. Miss Kelly was one of the principal dancers of one of the hippest bellydance companies in America today, Urban Tribal. Urban Tribal, directed by Heather Stantz, takes tribal style bellydance and infuses it with all kinds of dance forms, but most notably hip hop and modern. Miss Kelly has performed widely and is an inspiration for her beauty, charm and dazzling costumes each time. She is currently studying Women's Studies at San Francisco State University.

Erica Cipriani
Erica began her interest in bellydance as a teenager, and after many years of studying, spent 4 years in dance comapy Ultra Gypsy, directed by Jill Parker. Erica loves bellydance and is an excellent performer, choreographer and avid student of the art. Her style blends aspects of traditional, tribal, tribal fusion and cabaret styles, making her own unique style. Erica also was in Mystic Family Circus. She currently is a teacher in the San Francisco Public Schools, one of our local heros!

Mighty and Non-Fat present to you “The Superfreq Express” featuring the former member of The Shamen and “Tech House” originator/catalyst, MR.C; his protégé and esteemed producer, Adultnapper (Francis Harris); and the next big thing in Electro House – Dollz At Play. Featuring a feast of cosmopolitan, techno-electro, acid, minimal house and techno beats from legends and prodigies– this is a show San Francisco will never forget.

For over 5 years now, the Superfreq nights have been one of the best underground parties around the world continually challenging eclectic electro, house and minimal techno sounds. They currently run every Sunday at The End, as well as select North American dates with Made Event in New York & Miami with a new quarterly residency at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles. After three fantastic seasons in Ibiza, the party successfully migrated from club Underground to the legendary DC 10 last year and the mayhem is now fully underway every Wednesday this summer. i want to give a shot out to my brother Syd for all his love and support!

Its because of you and all the work with Opel that I have been blessed and fortunate to have the opportunity to create variety shows featuring bellydancers of all varieties, shapes and sizes. This has been an incredible gift and has been so amazing for me to bring these wonderful artist together and give this gift of dance to the greater dance community!

Thank you for your help in all the various ways, too many to mention and for encouraging me to continue to pursue my passion and supporting it in the overall vision for Opel and conscious dance music parties! Also for giving me a whole time slot at Opulent Temple just for the bellydance show, that is so epic!

At a time when we spend $12 billion dollars a month on war in Iraq, and we are totally obliterating any good chance of harmonious future relations with the Arab and Islamic world, I feel its more important than ever to purse this so that we can have some small sliver of inter cultural connectiveness, or a chance to communicate in this small way that not all Americans are fuck faces who want to bomb Arabic and culture to smitherinees. In actuality, there are many people who appreciate culture and spend a lot of time and energy to learn more about the region and the dancing technique!

And with this, its so powerful and important in my opinion to have this interconnected with Opel and the greater vision it holds!

So thanks again and thanks to all my friends and community for coming out to these events to witness Ansuya, one of the best bellydancers of all time (my .02).

Without you bro, these wouldn't be happening, so thank you.

Holy crap, the OT plans for the playa this year are amazing. I had a lot of fun helping out on Tuesday night, and hopefully I'll get a chance to head over to the box shop again this week to give a little of my time and energy to help the Opulent Temple crew make something truly special. If any of you have ever enjoyed yourselves at an Opel party, or danced the night away at Opulent Temple on the playa, I encourage you to consider volunteering. Meet and work with some cool people, help create a cool piece of the playa that will be enjoyed by thousands, and do something different for a few hours.

Guest list and new music for you re: this Saturday

Yo friends,

This Saturday I get the headlinging slot at 1015. (1am-3am) main room.

After all my years clubbing there when I was first getting into the scene in the late 90's it is a treat for me even though obviously the crowd and club has changed a lot. Obviously you know the sound in the main room is amazing and some of my peeps are going so you'll have a safety zone of a posse to hang with!

I hope you'll consider braving a Saturday night there and hear my take on quality progressive trance (which I rarely play anymore but still enjoy.)

I have 20 guest list spots before 12M, and unlimited before 11:00pm. Please Tribe or e mail me to get on the before 12M list, first come first served.

I've been on a bit of an electro breaks kick lately (well, the last few years hehe) and this is the inevitable musical meltdown, with a few other sub-genres thrown in for good measure. Bottom line, though, is I'm very happy with this set. Definitely something you can dance to, and carries a certain energy throughout. This week-I am proud to announce the 3rd annual Dream On benefit supporting City of Dreams. I'm sure you've heard me run off at the mouth about it before-but we really need your support. I am absolutely onboard with everyone's vision out there for Burning Man and the benefits that accompany that event-I have certainly donated my time DJ'ing and dancing at many a Burning Man Fundraiser.

This benefit goes a bit deeper in its reach to OUR community here in SF-beyond white middle-class SF-to those kids in our inner city neighborhoods who really need it and who really want and need to leave their neighborhoods on the weekends and experience new and exciting things that they ordinarily may not have the opportunity to.

Opulent request for participation

Hey Opel Tribe members,

We are notching things up with our projects this year and are asking for participation from the wider community outside just the camp members to help us complete 2 ambitious projects.

We're hoping you'd consider showing up on a couple work days to just pitch a hand around our work space (usually the Box Shop). No special skills are needed - BUT - if you have welding / metal working skills we could definitely use your help!!

We'll be scheduling work days every Sunday from now until the end of June from 12N-5pm and every Tuesday night from 7:30-10:30, also from now until the end of June.

Please contact me or post here if you can lend a hand. We have a lot of fun and it's a great way to contribute to the space we're creating and the overall event.

Camp with Opulent Temple in 2007

You may have heard us at 2:00 & Esplanade. For five years, the Opulent Temple has brought the most diverse lineups of world-class talent the playa has ever seen. Stanton Warriors, Tiesto Paul Oakenfold, Lee Coombs, DJ Dan, Hybrid, Sandra Collins, D:Fuse, The Scumfrog, Freq Nasty, Tipper, Josh Gabriel (of Gabriel & Dresden), Bassnectar (Lorin) and others among them. We will be back in ‘07 with our biggest and most ambitious projects to date, continuing to create a space for sacred dance and peak experience for the community.
